Texas Litter Control is no longer accepting animals and had ended our adoption program.
Texas Litter Control's primary mission is to provide low-cost Veterinary care to the public. Our goal is to prevent unwanted litters of kittens and puppies and to help people with affordable medical care for their pets. These much-needed services keep pets out of our shelters. We have many auxiliary life-saving programs. Each year, we reevaluate each program to make sure we are utilizing our limited financial resources in the most impactful ways we can.
After careful consideration, we have decided to end our cat adoption program. The program is simply too costly. It is no longer sustainable and is not the best use of our organization's resources. TLC has been supporting a small cat adoption program since 2014. Currently our adoption numbers are down 56% over last year due to the rising cost of pet supplies and medical care for pet owners. People are becoming apprehensive about adopting pets when they are struggling to put food on the table. Pet care expenses for our adoption animals have risen over $40 per animal between 2022 and 2023. We feel the program has run its course and we will be diverting funding to other life-saving programs like our shelter intervention program (HelpMeKeepMyPet.com).
No cats or kittens will be euthanized due to the end of this program. We intend to adopt all the animals currently in our adoption program. The decision to end this program was not taken lightly. It is just the right decision for our organization financially and for public people in need of assistance. Please continue to watch our Facebook pages and websites for more information about our programming changes.
Thank you for supporting us in adopting over 7,500 animals over the last 9 years and for supporting future programs to come! TLC cannot exist without you - our community.

You will hear all kinds of crazy urban myths when re-homing pets. We have formal applications, interviews and contracts and nothing in life is full proof. One thing is certain... our shelters cannot handle the current capacity and you re-homing a pet is much safer than turning it into a shelter!!!!! ALL local shelters are SERIOUSLY OVER CAPACITY. They have no choice other than to euthanize animals. YOU CAN HELP them by getting creative and re-homing these animals on your own. The animals are all of our responsibilities. Rescuing is not just picking an animal up and dumping it on someone else.
We understand that you cannot always help. Shelters are for extreme situations. They are not for a couple of weeks of inconvenience to a person. Try to re-home first. We hope this gives you a lot to think about and we hope you help spread the word about the current state of our shelters and the animals in our community.
Sincerely,
Deana Love
